The Andromeda Galaxy, or M31, is a massive spiral galaxy located about 2.5 million light-years from Earth, making it the nearest major neighbor to our Milky Way. It is the largest member of the Local Group and is famously on a collision course to eventually merge with our galaxy in several billion years. Its immense size and bright core make it one of the few deep-sky objects visible to the naked eye under dark skies.
